- Director Of Photography: The film captures several aspects of the harsh class differences in pre – revolutionary Egypt. Ahmad returns home after graduating as an agricultural engineer, full of hopes and plans to increase the sugarcane output and bring prosperity to his village, located close to Luxor in the South of Egypt. The young engineer eventually succeeds in offering a major sugar company a product that could compete with the one cultivated in the pasha’s land. In coordination with his nephew Riyad, the pasha conspires to flood the village fields and spoil the crops of its peasants. Soon after the villagers recognize his hand in the flooding conspiracy, the pasha plots to kill the village’s local leader and then frames Ahmad’s father, who is consequently jailed, tried, and then hanged.
