Co-Production of Complaint No. 713317
MIF is proud to announce the co-production of Complaint No. 713317, the debut feature film by Egyptian director Yasser Shafie, in collaboration with Red Star, Film Square, and New Century.
A dark comedy that turns the breakdown of a household appliance into a sharp satire on bureaucracy, aging, and resilience, Complaint No. 713317 follows Magdy and Sama, a retired couple whose quiet life in their Maadi apartment is disrupted when their fridge breaks down. What begins as a simple repair quickly spirals into a months-long confrontation with a shady maintenance company—exposing not only the cracks in the system, but also in their own lives.

This marks Shafie’s first feature-length film, following a series of acclaimed short works:
- The Dream of a Scene – Special Prize for Best Script, Festival del Cinema Africano, d’Asia e America Latina (2015)
- Every Day at 6 AM – Development Award, Malmö Arab Film Festival (2018)
- Intense Practice to Improve Performance – Cervantes Award for Best Creative Short at MedFilm Festival and Best Director at Visions Cairo Egyptian Short Film Festival (2020)
- The Man Who Swallowed the Radio – World Premiere, Cinema of Tomorrow competition, Cairo International Film Festival (2020)
Through Complaint No. 713317, Shafie continues his exploration of the absurdities of everyday life in contemporary Egypt, blending dark humor with sharp social commentary.
MIF, alongside Red Star, Film Square, and New Century, is delighted to support this distinctive voice in Egyptian cinema and to present the film to audiences at home and abroad.
